PIT / spike Demonstration

Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy

May 8, 2003

Pursuit intervention technique (PIT) and stringer spikes are two types of forcible stop techniques used by the Tallahassee Police Department. PIT is a maneuver police cars make when trying to stop a vehicle while in pursuit. The police car taps the rear bumper of the fleeing vehicle and makes it spin 180 degrees to a stop. Stringer spikes are used for tire deflation to stop a vehicle. Below are some photos of that event.
